Happy Valentine’s Day! Whether you’re spending it with your partner, some of your best pals or perhaps in a place that you adore, love is in the air this time of the year. While I do find the commercialization of Valentine’s Day to be a bit intense, we can all use a little more love in our lives, especially given all the troubling news happening around the world.
I shamelessly adore watching The Bachelor and all of their associated shows. I love the fashion, the random dates in beautiful and exotic locations around the world, and all the cheesiness and drama. It’s my guilty pleasure where I get to hunker down on my couch with a glass of wine every Monday evening. One of the cheesy lines they always seem to say is “[this city] is the perfect place to fall in love” and they say this regardless of where they actually are. So that got my thinking. What are some of the world’s perfect places to fall in love?

My pick for the perfect place to fall in love: Tofino, BC!
I’ve met a guy I saw for awhile in Paris, and dated someone in Budapest when I was living there. With my current boyfriend, we’ve traveled near and far, but I think it was our first trip together, driving to Tofino on Vancouver Island, as standing out as the perfect place to fall in love. It was rainy season so we spent a lot of it inside, watching the rain pour, adventuring out to the beach and nearby trails when it was less wet. Definitely romantic and memorable.
The world is a big place and to share to love, I turned to my fellow travel bloggers and asked them to share where they think is the perfect place to fall in love.

Maui is the perfect place to fall in love. Considered one of the most authentic islands in Hawaii, it’s the perfect choice for our romantic holiday. I have to say, my husband proposed to me watching the sunset at the Haleakala volcano. Of course I said YES!
The best way to explore the island is by car what gives you more freedom to enjoy every moment in Maui. You will love the mix of white sandy beaches on one side of the island and volcanic beaches with coral reefs on the other. And if you like marine life, you will have the chance to see sea turtles while snorkeling! The Haleakala National Park is really worth it. I recommend spending an afternoon at the top of the volcano watching the sunset. So romantic! And have your camera ready because views are unforgettable!
The views from the cliffs of Maui will take your breath away, and I don’t have words to describe the turquoise waters where you can sail through the coves made by the volcano lava. You will fall in love with Maui and have an amazing time as a couple.

Turn back time in Havana, Cuba. The streets look untouched for half a century, classic cars roam the streets, and the same restaurants and hotels are serving up classic Cuban dishes and cocktails. Havana is an ideal place for relaxation. Since limited wifi prevents distractions you and your partner are better off reading a Hemingway novel in one of his old haunts surrounded by colonial Spanish architectural gems. Stick to Old Havana to take in the atmosphere at places like Dona Eutemia, Hotel Nacional, and El Floridita. Grab a cigar, Havana rum, and take in the views from your hotel balcony with churches, ships, and the sea in the distance. Don’t miss the nighlife with the famed Tropicana Cabaret show or a night with Buena Vista Social Club classics. Havana is a truly romantic place to spend alone time without distractions, amongst generous Cubans, and to roll back the time to simpler days before the internet.

We are a couple of opposites which makes it very difficult to decide on open questions like these. However, Mauritius for us was special. We might be biased given it was our honeymoon destination, however there are few places that could have charmed us like it did. It greeted us with a double rainbow within the first few hours of us landing there. So rainbows – check, long walks on pristine beaches with white sand – check, colourful hills for a couple selfie – check, wonderful food – check. We could go on but would rather you visit it yourself. It’s definitely a perfect place to fall in love, we know we did.

Morocco is a perfect place to fall in love. The trip to Morocco was the first trip we took together with my husband (boyfriend at that time) and where we said “I love you” to each other. It couldn’t be more romantic, it was actually way more romantic than our honeymoon. Morocco is just incredible. Imagine fabulous exotic palaces hidden behind unremarkable doors in the streets of Old Town (Medina) of Marrakesh. These palaces (Riads) are actually hotels, where you can stay and they aren’t expensive. Morocco is full of markets selling exotic things, where you can bargain as much as you want. Bags, spices, shawls, leather goods – everything you want is sold there. Even food. The biggest food market opens at the main square of Marrakesh every evening. It’s challenging to find places at the best booths – they are always crowded, but that signifies that food there is good. In Marrakesh, there are gardens with orange trees and fountains, snake whisperers with their cobras, henna masters, who would paint on you the most beautiful temporary tattoos. Morocco is unique and amazing romantic destination.

Cinque Terre in Italy is an ideal place to fall in love. The famous walk, Via dell’Amore (the Way of Love) is a footpath along the sea across the five villages of Cinque Terre. The path starts in Riomaggiore and ends in Manarola. Along the walk, couples can see small villages, beautiful views of the sea, colourful houses. The walk is only about 1 km long and most people can do it within 20 minutes. The Way of Love is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is one of the most important tourist attraction of the region. The best time to do the walk the Way of Love is during sunset or sunrise. It is especially romantic to see the sun going down, behind the colourful houses of the small villages. I once had a blind date in Cinque Terre with a guy. It was one of the most memorable dates I have ever had.

Ask someone to mention a romantic place, and most likely places like Paris, Venice or Rome will come up. They are gorgeous cities, in a cliché kind of way I suppose. And I am not nearly as romantic as the average girl. In fact, I think one of the most amazing places to fall in love is the region of Bela Krajina, in Slovenia, which is right on the border with Croatia. What’s special about Bela Krajina is that it has hardly been hit by mass tourism. It is a place where life still goes on at a slow pace. Its green hills are covered in forest; hidden corners where lovers can contemplate the beauty of nature; tiny, gorgeous villages; abandoned castles and unheard-of archaeological sites. It’s a place where the few tourists feel welcome, and they become immediately part of the local community. I may have not fallen in love in Bela Krajina, but I have definitely fallen in love with it.

Kotor, Montenegro is a truly unique and beautiful place. Whether you approach Kotor by car or cruise ship you get to view the beauty of Kotor Bay a UNESCO World Heritage site. Kotor sits at the end of the bay encompassed by hills that rise sharply from the waterfront. Sitting above the small streets and medieval buildings of the Kotor old town is the Castle Of San Giovanni. 1350 steps takes you to the top of this castle. It’s a view like no other and a photo memory everyone needs. This castle and its fortification walls have been protecting Kotor in one shape or another since the 6th. Kotor has a strong Venitian influence in its old town due to it belonging to the Venetian empire for a long stretch of time. There are plenty of close small towns dotted around the bay that you can visit such as Perast and the two islands that sit in Kotor bay. Our lady of the rocks is a must visit island that was built by locals over 500 years and now holds a pilgrimage church. We visited Kotor in the winter when there was literally no tourists and no cruise ships. We fell in love with its location the friendly people the great food the amazing sites

For us, Boracay is the perfect place to fall in love in. Why we love Boracay so much? We like waking up early and watching the sunrise. While we are having breakfast, we are already preparing our island hopping for the day. After spending the morning swimming in the crystal blue waters of White Beach, you can easily enjoy eating seafood, drinking beer with friends, with various eating choices – from simple places to lavish ones. And our favorite moment of the day: the sunset. After a busy day island hopping, swimming, sunbathing, and reading a book, the late afternoon sunset views is definitely the best moment to share with your special someone. Grabbing a beer and snacks while watching the sunset are a must do! You can see people swimming, taking pictures, paddling, and riding their boats, and they all make the scenery raw and more beautiful.

Langkawi in Malaysia is a wilderness of mountains, waterfalls, secluded sandy bays and rainforest, which covers more than 50% of the island. You can spend your days together kicking back on the long stretches on sandy white beach – or join one of the many wildlife tours on offer, from kayaking through crab-riddled mangroves to watching White-bellied Sea Eagles feeding in isolated lagoons or exploring the marine life on an island hopping tour.
Datai Bay in the northwest of the island is the place to head to for romance. This secluded beach where the rainforest meets the ocean has previously been named amongst the 10 Best Beaches in the World by National Geographic and is home to two luxury resorts. The Datai is the ultimate destination for those looking for a silver spoon jungle experience. Embedded in the jungle, The Datai is paradise for nature lovers. Monkeys wander past as you sunbathe at the swimming pool, giant hornbills nest in the trees above your head as you enjoy sunset cocktails, and the nightly chorus of cicadas provide the soundtrack for dinner in the rainforest restaurants.

If there is one city in the world, where it’s impossible not to fall in love, it’s the Eternal City, Rome. The beautiful architecture, the charming people and the fantastic local cuisine creates the perfect atmosphere to fall in love. In addition, although Rome is a big city, the most romantic places are pretty close to each other, and you can explore the most beautiful spots in Rome on foot.
If this is your first time in Rome with your loved one, apart from visiting the most important monuments like the Forum, or the Coliseum, you can also discover the picturesque squares and fountains of the Eternal City. In the most touristic areas like Piazza Navona or the Trevi Fountain, it will be hard to enjoy a romantic moment in solitude, but after visiting these places you can get lost together in the medieval streets of the city and enjoy the special ambience, only found in Rome. As far as dining is concerned, Rome offers one of the best cuisines in the world, and in the Trastevere neighborhood, you will find many excellent “trattorias” run buy local families, which also provide a perfect setting to fall in love.

Bora Bora is a perfect island paradise for sweethearts to visit. The iconic overwater bungalows that are found at most resorts give you a romantic setting and more privacy than most other accommodations. Since Bora Bora is a popular destinations for weddings and honeymoons, the island is prepared to give you an experienced focused on romance.

Spanish Basque Country is one of the most beautiful places in the world. From its incredible greenery seen nowhere else in Spain to its gorgeous turquoise water beaches, you’ll feel as if you’re in a fairytale. That feeling only grows if you take a road trip along the coast. Walk up the many, many stairs to the seaside church of San Juan de Guatelugatxe, eat pintxos in the tapas bars of San Sebastián, or relax in the quiet seaside town of Lekeitio with your love. Wherever you go, you’ll be one of very few tourists — all the better for enjoying quiet moments with your partner.

If I had to pin down one Caribbean island that is the most underestimated for its romantic tourism – it would be Puerto Rico. Last year we got a chance to spend a week in PR and we fell in love with the cultural vibe of the place instantly. Most of our trip was centred around the historic colonial section of the city of San Juan. Old San Juan is the oldest settlement of Puerto Rico, defined by its narrow, blue cobblestone streets, and flat-roofed brick and stone buildings which date back to the 16th and 17th century—when Puerto Rico was a Spanish possession. Its colourful buildings and street art with a point of view makes this town alive and contemporary even today while retaining its history and colonial style of architecture. A perfect setting to fall in love.

There’s nothing more romantic than a remote island in the middle of the ocean, right? But what if I told you that I’m not talking about the typical tropical scenery – palm trees and all that – but rather, about a rocky, windswept island in the middle of the Atlantic, where birds outnumber people a million to one. There are only 14 residents in Mykines, the westernmost of the Faroe Islands – the island is perfect for lovers of nature and the wilderness, and the birdwatching is absolutely phenomenal in summer. You’ll definitely be able to spot puffins, gannets, Arctic terns, oystercatchers and more, and take walks on the mist-wrapped cliffs in total solitude. That’s what I call romantic!

My perfect place to fall in love is Thailand, who doesn’t love white sandy beaches and turquoise waters? My first taste was on my Thailand honeymoon and not only did I fall in love with Thailand but it was the perfect place for a honeymoon. We love renting a beach bungalow where we can fall asleep hearing the waves crashing outside and wake up just steps to the ocean. Our favourite island is Koh Lipe, the southern-most island in Thailand. During the day we rent a private longtail boat for the day for only $45 and go off exploring the nearby islands. Nothing is more romantic than a beach picnic on your own private island. Not only do we love the islands but lets get real we love Thai food too. Our favourite restaurant in the world is on Koh Lipe, Sunrise Beach Restaurant has the best Penang curry for less $3 and the best part is it’s served on the beach with your toes in the sand as you look out to the Andaman Sea. Thailand really is the perfect place to fall in love.
